Format return

The format has returned to normal after emails about not being able to post comments and a complete inability to access the site myself...

Stupid recommendations.

Month end...

Dear Mr Mulholland and co,

I'm forced to concede my target for this month was a tad ambitious. 120 orks based and 3 colour painted in a month...

I did an inventory before i started and happily realised 17 just needed basing and another 13 just needed basing and the metalwork and teeth painting.

Unfortunately this made me complacent and I left off doing anything until last Wednesday I realised how little time remained.  Okay 90 models sprayed green to apply 3 colour to and 120 models to base...

First job glue and sand...

Second job, pick a mob...

90 models remaining...

Pick another mob...

60 remaining...

Pick another mob...

30 remaining...

Pick another mob...

Looks like I managed to do it after all.

Am I pleased with them?  No, they look awful but are painting to minimum gaming standard.  All of a sudden my goal for 3k of Orks by Christmas looks achievable, shame that this lot only make up 915pts of it though...

It's been a sparse month...

I love being back at work, this first half term is always the easiest...[craters could be formed from the sarcasm dripping from that comment]

So, back to the important stuff.  I got a couple of hours to myself on Thursday so I broke out the airbrush, but within seconds I realised something was up. The needle is bent, therefore the paint is defusing more than it should and is spraying way off-centre, I need a replacement but a cheap one isn't going to arrive before month end.

On the positive side, I applied sand to all my bases, except the Grotz, Flash Gitz and the Storm Boyz as all are WiP, then coaxed the airbrush into a semblance of life until it was working sufficiently well to basecoat all 120+ models with a lovely shade of Orkhide green. I even managed to apply a 2nd colour to the Shoota Boyz.

It's not pretty, but that was never intention. I'm just tired of staring at a sea of grey...or rather I was.

Theoretically I have tomorrow afternoon to blitz the rest of them but we'll have to see what the future holds.

Best comment ever...

We're at Wayne's and the wargaming conversation just came up. For a change we're here in force and while the inevitable conversation raged Will quipped "It's okay, we can take them. They don't outnumber us and i think we'll get the flanking bonus."

Ho ho ho

hehehe.  I've as much chance of hitting my target as a blind archer with parkinson's disease. (This is a comparison not an insult)

I've not picked up a paintbrush or airbrush all week, nor have I finished a new chapter of Tales of Woe. So what have I been doing?  Watched the parts one and two of the Matrix triliogy whilst comforting E who's just had her second lot of jabs and got into a stupid argument with someone in Tom's Boring Mordheim Forum over the Dual-wield rules in Mordheim.

Oh procrastination, how I love thee!

Sod it, I'll take my frustrations out in the Ankh-Mordheim arena later and hopefully feel a bit better.

Absolutely bugger all to do with painting...

For your perusal should you so wish. (Click file "Download Original")

Editable Mordheim Roster  based on the hardwork of Jorisch

Mordheim Chariot Race (including 1st draft of advanced rules)

and the Ankh-Mordheim Scenerios.

Gothic Industries Manufactured Playing Systems is undergoing a massive re-write (to point where I might actually scrap it entirely) but here it is in the last format.

GIMPS Skirmish V2.1

Zombie Scenario

The main reason I started writing the ruleset was to play any 28mm army against any other 28mm army, but apparently I'm five years too late, kind of puts a dampener on my enthusiasm.

August update meeting

Well everyone agreed my photos were the problem last month and really didn't do justice to the skaven.

In other news, Matt's Swat ruleset is fun though seemed a little overpowered at times. That said it's a dice game and i think my last 3 coppers went out on 5's followed by 5's.

Most of my evening after that was wasted as i searched for the white-tack to stick my models to the table. Two hours later and I thought to ask Lou and found out she'd borrowed it. As a result only 30 Orks were sprayed :-( 90 left before I can even start putting a second colour on...

September Objectives?

Well, there's...and...actually I'm not sure...

My plan for the summer was to use a couple of hours to base colour all the Orks using the spray gun, but that hasn't happened.  With that done I can concentrate on making them look somewhere near decent, without it...

So my target for this month is to base colour spray as many models as possible, starting with the 120 remaining Orks. It's hardly realistic, nor will it win me many points this month but it needs to be done.

To clarify some things about the blog last month:

'A Tail of Woe' are narratives of the battles Haarchit's Harriers are fighting in Wayne's Ankh-Mordheim Campaign, if I remember there will be photos adorning some of the future posts. (Currently have writer's block despite the fact I'm only linking actual events together)

Similarly, the Harriers were painted to represent the characters I was creating.  Stikum is an old Assassin, he's still alive because he knows his limits and those of everyone else around him, Haarchit is a younger Sorcerer hence the lighter coloured palette. Bo Djit and Skar Pa (and now So Ditt) are Black Skaven and painted to represent bad-ass ninjas, they do their job and disappear so the palette was deliberately dark, dark skin, dark clothes, muted blades.  Eek and Squeek are the youths, flamboyant and fair skinned, their clothing was an accident, Eek got the kilt because the model looked like he was wearing one and Squeek because Matt and Kieron were taking the piss about doing Paisley prints. ;-)

So yeah, target for September: 120 orks 3 coloured and based.  Should be fun!

Ankh-Mordheim Chariot Race

And it's a fine day for racing here today, the sun is shining... Well it's not too dark anyway and the chariots are taking their positions on the starting line. The kislevites supernatural hut has just managed to squeeze onto the line, it's a tight space but it looks like the stewards are allowing it!

They're under starting orders...and they're off! It's a quick start for most but the Harriers newest member seems to be having problems with the Rat Ogre, no i stand corrected he's off at a savage pace and there seems to be little chance of him avoiding the brettonian!  No chance at all as he ploughs into the back of the Knight! He's looking a little dazed there...

But at the front of the pack the kislevites have taken an early lead closely followed by the vendetta's ogre powered monstrosity, the Harriers have disentagled themselves to briefly take third before being overtaken by the grail blazers. At the rear of the pack there seems to be some altercation between Stiitch's Scavengers and Pimp My Grobi and the steam chariot goes ploughing into a wall!

They're coming around the second corner now and it's Gleb's Graspers followed by Vallon's Vendetta, Haarchit's Harriers and the Grail Blazers. Onto the straight and Gleb's Graspers have a comfortable lead but here come the Harriers and there's an impact! The warrior seems completely unfazed and controls his walking hut through the shunt, taking a fearless warrior with lucky charm has paid dividends for the wily old captain! The rat ogre seems bewildered and it gives the Blazers and vendetta chance to slip past.

Oh there's another impact! The Vendetta goes into the back of the Blazers and there's a second shunt as the Harriers slam into the Vendetta pushing them into the Blazers once more! They appear to be stuck while the Harriers push through and chase down the runaway leader.  At the rear, Stiitch's Scavengers are speeding down the straight but the Pimp my Grobi lad has lost control and he's heading straight for the wall! Ouch, that had to hurt!  The Harriers manage to manoeuvre through the gap but the Scavengers don't and its another shunt for the Vendetta and the Blazers.

As Gleb's Grasper clears the second to last corner, it's the Harriers in second and Stiitch's Scavengers in third. The Harriers seem to be setting up to ambush the hut, there's not even a hint of subtlety and I don't think the crowd are going to like it... The Graspers are away and the Harriers seem to have thought better and are following the course now. Pimp mi Grobi are steaming down the straight now and are putting pressure on the back three, but it looks like it's an easy win for the kislevites.

And the walking hut crosses the line! The kislevites made it look oh so simple! The Harriers have turned the second to last corner and are powering down toward the final corner but what's this? Vallon's Vendetta are blatantly cheating and cutting the corner! The crowd don't like it and have pelted the chariot with stones, their not going anywhere until they've recovered from that beating! And it gets worse! The noble Brettonian looks to have been taking advantage of the distraction to also cut corners but the enraged crowd have caught him! It's hard to believe but it looks like it's the skaven who are the most honourable racers after the Kislevites as the scavengers take the same route as the Harriers!

Speaking of whom they're making a break for the line but what's this? They've slowed at the line and the Vendetta are taking full advantage but have misjudged the gap and hit the Harriers!  The Skaven seem unfazed but the ogre is reeling! Speaking of Skaven the Scavengers have taken advantage of the distraction and slipped unnoticed under the bridge to challenge for a place.

At the back of field, the Pimp Mi Grobi driver has started drinking the Bugmans xxxxxx that was being used as accelerant and its effected his judgement. He's heading for the wall again and I think he's out of the race.
Back to the leaders and as the Harriers cross the line it looks like its going to be a Skaven second and third. But what's this? The not so noble Brettonian has decided to cheat again! He's hit the Scavengers and their chariots are caught up, it's given the Ogre chance to recover and Vallon's Vendetta take third. It's fourth for the Scavengers and fifth for the Brettonian.

The Knight has no honour as he tries to scupper the Harriers...
And the Witch Hunters use the distraction to attempt a blatant cheat!
2nd place goes to the Harriers and it's a fight for 3rd
Rat to Knight arse one.
We seem to be drink driving again.
This is what happens when a Rat Ogre rattles you so much you just hit the turbo to get away!
It's the Skaven in 2nd and 3rd!
You can't touch this!

Racing for 2nd place.
Doo doo do come on and do the conga...
Whip it! but turn the bloody wheel first you fool!
Poised to cheat in order to stop Bill, never got the chance!
And the Winner is... Bill!
